XBL - XENTAURIX BROADCAST LOGGER PROFESSIONAL

Further information

Fact sheet
Silverlight edition

The XBL-Broadcast Logger, type "Professional", is used as a network-based TV/radio recorder for dispatch confirmation, program editing; as personal video recorders; clip, editing and production systems; information and ongoing education platforms; or as business/IPTV solutions. Special characteristics of the logger include cutting-edge user compatibility, high flexibility and multi-functionality.

The Professional Logger consists of an XBL master unit and a number of XBL subunits. The XBL master unit administers and controls the entire system with all connected XBL subunits and comprises user and content management, database, streaming and web server. Depending on its configuration, the system can record up to 200 TV and radio stations simultaneously with varying quality and over a time period of weeks, months, or even up to years (loop recording).

The XBL subunits function as encoder, recorder and storage system in one device. Depending on the unit delivered, a subunit can encode one to eight channels with a standard hard drive of 2TB within a RAID5 composite. Through upgrades of the storage, the XBL subunits can be expanded to a total of 4TB. Recording quality and bandwidth can be modified for each channel, from CIF to HD 720p.

Targeted searches in metadata

Metadata such as EPG, subtitles, as-run logs or transcription texts from speech recognition can be recorded in sync with TV/radio content. Bookmarks can be added, either during or after recording. The combination of metadata and recordings makes it possible for broadcasts to be targeted and accessed down to the split second through the entry of key words via the integrated full-text search engine. With the XBL logger, you have at your disposal a TV/radio search engine without parallel.

Highly scalable, multi-functional system

The XBL logger uses the modern WMV9 and/or VC-1 CODEC, which enable recordings with low storage requirements yet excellent video and audio quality. In addition, artec's patented CvoD technology enables network-based, time-shifted playback across the entire spectrum of recordings. The new user interface combines live display, search, playback, metadata as well as the generation of clips in one single layout. The layout can also be modified to meet individual needs. A new highlight of the logger is the storyboard which provides a first-class tool for editing broadcast contents as well as displaying chronologically sequenced images.

Generation of video clips

Video clips can easily be generated via the XBL Player or frame-by-frame with the X-Editor software in a network. With additional modules, the video clips can be generated not only in the WM9 format, but also in video output-formats such as Flash, Quicktime or 3G. For live recording services or long-term archiving, artec provides complete production and/or archiving systems with CD/DVD robots.

Silverlight-based

The XBL-Professional Logger user and administrator interfaces are based on the Microsoft® Silverlight® Edition, and their highly modern design and the optically appealing "Onscreen Blending" operational elements are quite impressive. The system layout can be created from four layout templates (Titan, Blue, White, and Black); user-specified players can be individually composed and then stored using four player templates (Simple, Standard, Multiple, and Compact) for individually personalized operational comfort and functionality. Through the Silverlight® plug-in, the logger supports the most common browsers in both Windows and Mac.

Variations in design

The logger's basic system contains analog video and audio inputs. Optionally, the subunits can also be equipped with DVB (C/S/T), ASI, TS streams, SDI, RGB or FM/AM inputs. For specific customer and/or application requirements, a variety of hardware components and software modules are available.

The XBL layout can be specifically adapted to an OEM. The basic version includes the languages D, GB, F, and E. Additional languages and fonts can be easily adapted with the speech editor.
