The XBL Broadcast Logger, standard model, is used as a network-compatible, multimedia recorder for transmission confirmation, recording and VoD (Video on Demand) production. Depending on configuration, this stand-alone appliance can digitally record up to 8 TV and radio stations with different levels of quality and over periods of time between 10 - 180 days or even more (loop recording). The XBL logger applies the modern WM9 or VC-1 codec and enables recording with excellent video and audio quality but with limited storage requirements. Moreover, artec technologies patented CVoD technology enables network-based, time-shifted playback as well as metadata search functions.
Live display, search, playback and administration are carried out via the standard Internet Explorer but without needing plug-ins or ActiveX. With the multiplayer, up to eight channels can be simultaneously displayed live or played back.
In one single appliance, the XBL standard logger combines encoder, recorder, user and content management, data base and web servers. Even in the basic unit, that appliance is equipped with mirrored hard drives and a total hard drive capacity of 800GB. Through memory upgrades, the logger can be expanded up to 3.2TB (RAID5). Recording quality and bandwidth are individually adjustable for each channel, from CIF to D1. Video clips can be generated very easily with the XBL player. With additional modules, the clips are also convertible into MPEG-2 in addition to the WM9 format. For recording or long-term archiving, a complete production or archiving system can be offered with CD/DVD robots. The logger can be enhanced to record metadata such as EPG, as-run-logs, subtitles and bookmarks. With the text-based search functions, broadcasts can be targeted and immediately played back by simply entering key words.
The XBL layout can individually customized. In the standard version, the system is available in the languages D, GB, F and E. Additional languages and characters can easily be adapted by the language editor. Even in its basic configuration, the logger provides analog video and audio inputs. Optional inputs such as SDI, DV, DVB-S/C/T are also available. With such a variety of options (see reverse page), the XBL logger is extremely efficient and can optimally be adapted to clients’ needs.
XBL Broadcast Logger systems have been in use ever since 2001, and have proven themselves to be reliable transmission confirmation and VoD production systems around the world.
