The XAS application server is intended for complete solutions of streaming media/IPTV applications as well as for IPTV (network TV) value-added services for ISPs. In conjunction with peripheral units like e.g. WMR encoders and storage servers, solutions can be implemented in either intranet or Internet.
As the application server is highly scaleable it provides the ideal solution for open or closed user groups desiring Windows Media live streaming, a combination of live and VoD (Video on Demand), as well as for pure VoD applications. The server is pre-configured and can be equipped with customized application software for:
- Interactive IP television (IPTV)
- Event IPTV
- VoD production systems
- Personal Video Recorders (PVR)
- Video search engines
- Media Monitoring
- E-Learning
Equipment
Even the basic XAS models provide control and user management with SQL databases, remote encoder and recorder controls, Apache server (PHP, HTML, JScript), streaming-media server, mail server, standard player as well as interfaces for the integration of third-party systems, for example for billing or DRM.
The browser-based control and management platform enables centralized remote control and remote configuration as well as error analysis of all the streaming media system components. That even includes encoder farms from any internet connection. In case of system disruption or signal outage, e-mails or text messages are automatically dispatched. Moreover, the server assures a high level of outage security for the individual periphery components. In case of need, backup systems can automatically be activated to guarantee uninterrupted operation. The integrated database already contains management and user administration functions. This enables the integration of third-party systems. In addition to that there is the application software.
Live + VoD = CVoD, the core function
Live streams from WM encoders controlled by the XAS are recorded in parallel for transmission to one central stream recorder. In just the same way a DVD recorder functions, a broadcast can be played back with time-shifting. In contrast to a DVR recorder, though, playback does not come from a local hard drive, but instead is provided by the central streaming recorder and server controlled by the XAS. In other words, our patented CVoD technology makes set-top boxes with hard drives superfluous. Instead, low-priced decoder boxes – such as e.g. artec’s ST X230 – are fully adequate. XAS communicates with ISP content delivery platforms and their infrastructures (consisting of streaming servers, cache storage and load balancing systems).
“My IPTV”
XAS is the ideal server for implementing an individual IPTV platform. With XAS, program providers such as TV stations can not only access additional channels for broadcasting, they can also provide new offerings. A variety of new specialty stations can emerge which offer their own IPTV programs over the Internet. By integrating IPTV into their homepages, companies can create direct, audio-visual channels to their customers and combine those with interactive services. XAS enables personalized, interactive IPTV. With the personal video recorder (PVR) platform, customers can schedule their TV programs and call them up anytime, anywhere - whether via set-top boxes, PCs or mobile phones. They can annotate their recorded broadcasts, archive them, generate their own videos and share their programs with other users.
Integrated search function
XAS enables personalized search functions. Whether metadata or personal bookmarks, just by typing in key words, customers can search EPG or their own archives for specific video contents – and without any delay.
Mobile value-added services
All XAS applications can also be made available for mobile phone call-up.
